eMBA Programs
What are eMBA Programs?
eMBA programs are Executive Master of Business Administration degree programs. They are designed to enhance the careers of working executives, who are already specialists in particular fields or industries; in order to advance their careers, these executives need to sharpen their management skills.
Professionals interested in eMBA programs will be interested in the following features:
• Enrollment is typically related to new or anticipated promotions
• Professional experience and expertise are incorporated into the curriculum
• Classes are normally held on Fridays and Saturdays, alternating weekends, over a period of two academic years
• Concentrated, interactive instruction includes learning outside the classroom
• All students take the same general management courses
Why should you enroll in eMBA programs?
If you are interested in advancing your business career, then the eMBA program is for you. eMBA programs offer several benefits:
• Well-designed curriculum comprised of several courses within each of the major business disciplines
• Permanent relocation is not required
• eMBA degrees may be earned in two years or less
• Less disruptive to family and career lifestyles
• Attractive to a broad range of disciplines (i.e., medical, legal, non profit, and business professionals)
Prospective eMBA students should be aware, however, that there are some limitations:
• Time commitment may be overwhelming – between 80 to 100 hours/week combined for school and work
• Employers must agree to give students time off to attend classes
• Absences are not tolerated, since classes are only held 4 days/month
What salary opportunities do eMBA programs offer?
According to an article entitled Executive MBA Gives Big Boost to Earning Power, you have serious higher earning opportunities when you hold an eMBA. This article, which was published in 2001, stated that even at that time, some eMBA grads earned 136% more over a five year period; others had more than doubled their salaries. So even though the eMBA program is expensive – it more than pays for itself in increased earnings.
